Plans for a solar farm to power a dairy factory in southern Scotland have been submitted. Arla Foods, a major dairy cooperative in the UK, seeks to install thousands of panels at its Lockerbie creamery.
The project connects the solar array directly to the creamery, making it the sole electricity user. The site spans about 10 hectares and will be surrounded by a security fence and CCTV.
Arla began earlier this year a £90m investment plan for the Lockerbie site, focusing on UHT and lactose-free milk production. The company says the solar farm would aid carbon reduction and energy security.

The proposed solar farm would include about 9,000 panels. It is designed to complement ongoing expansion at the creamery, which supports high-volume milk output and cheddar production.
The Lockerbie facility employs around 242 staff. It currently handles roughly 600 million litres of milk and 42,000 tonnes of cheddar annually.
