Two suspected Ebola cases in Brazil have been ruled out after tests came back negative, according to local health authorities.
In São Paulo, a 37-year-old man who had travelled to the DR Congo showed fever and other symptoms. He had previously tested positive for meningitis, but Ebola was ruled out after diagnostic tests.
In Rio de Janeiro, another patient who had recently travelled to Uganda tested negative for Ebola. The man had tested positive for malaria and presented viral symptoms such as cough, chills and diarrhoea. He is described as a Belgian national.

Authorities say the São Paulo case and the Rio de Janeiro case, if positive, would have marked the first Ebola infections outside Africa since the outbreak began in DR Congo. No additional cases are reported, and both individuals are undergoing routine follow-up.

DR Congo reports more than 1.000 suspected cases with at least 246 deaths, concentrated in Ituri and the North and South Kivu provinces. Uganda has confirmed nine cases and one death. The current outbreak is linked to the Bundibugyo strain, which has no proven vaccine. Three vaccines are under development to tackle this strain.
